Marco Van Hattum (PhD)

Principal Geologist

Marco is the Principal Geologist and is responsible for the collection and evaluation of subsurface data, seismic interpretation, building reservoir models and planning of drilling and development activities.

Marco has worked in the oil and gas industry since 2005, and has worked in a broad range of geoscience positions covering the different stages of field lifecycle, from exploration, development, and drilling operations to enhanced recovery.

Marco has worked for Royal Dutch Shell (2005-2013), and has worked in near-field gas exploration studies and drilling in the North Sea, new venture exploration in North and West Africa, development geoscience and seismic interpretation of the Bonga North deepwater oilfield (Nigeria), enhanced recovery planning and drilling of snake wells in Brunei, and HPHT reservoir modelling in Malaysia.

Previously to joining Springfield E&P, Marco worked for DONG Energy in Denmark, re-evaluating the mature Siri oilfield (North Sea) and proposing enhanced recovery strategies in close cooperation with reservoir engineering.

Marco holds an Master of Science degree in Geology from Utrecht University (the Netherlands), specializing in clastic sedimentology, and a doctorate (PhD) in Geology from Royal Holloway University of London (UK), specializing in provenance studies of deep marine sandstones, and has several publications to his credit.
