Legal Advisor

Springfield Exploration and Production Limited (SEP) is one of the newest entrants into Ghana’s rapidly growing oil and gas industry. SEP is seeking an experienced Legal Advisor who will oversee all legal and Corporate Compliance Programmes, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns within the Springfield Group. The position ensures the Board of Directors, management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization meets the company’s Standards of Conduct.

This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Springfield E&P.



General Purpose

  1. To provide high quality legal advice and operational policy advice on a range of complex issues arising across the operations of the group of companies.
  1. Support the roll out of the Code of Business Conduct and associated policies that underpin the code and involvement in a variety of ethics and compliance assignments.



  1. Review all contracts or any other documentation where the company has committed itself. Assess legal implications that need to be brought to the Senior Management’s attention and advise accordingly.
  2. Draft, negotiate, review and modify contracts to assist and support the company’s business activities.
  3. Negotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions and prepare and advise on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure contractual obligations are met.
  4. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
  5. Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management, especially on contract management.
  6. Provide and interpret regulatory and legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal, ethics and compliance requirements to staff.
  7. Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
  8. Review progress of outstanding cases, advise management accordingly and liaise with and manage external lawyers as instructed.
  9. Formulate compliance check-lists to be used for the purpose of ensuring that all information required is provided accordingly.
  10. Continuously monitor compliance with statutory/regulatory obligations and advise management accordingly.
  11. Provide leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of staff and resources in the Legal & Compliance department.



  • A good University degree in law with preference for masters in oil and Gas law or related field.
  • Should be qualified to practice law in Ghana.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • 10 years of working experience in a commercial legal environment either in private practise firm, in-house or other business environment.
