Springfield Chief Operating Officer Calls for Women Empowerment

Geena RenWoman

Springfield Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Geena Malkani has advised women in work places to work hard and develop a passion for excellence and success, which is the surest way to get into top management positions.

She was speaking on the topic: Women in Leadership-the task of creating an inclusive environment for women in the corporate world at the maiden event of the Women Rising Beyond Discrimination- organized by Renwoman, a women organization within Rendevour, a Pan African Urban Land Developer in Accra.

The event was organized to empower female employees and leverage off the strength of women to impact society.

Ms. Malkani said one way in which women could find themselves within management positions in organizations was when more women were employed through the efforts of other women and mentored to aspire to the top. She supported her point by referring to United Nations statistics that indicate that women across the world are discriminated against in various ways, although they were a very significant part of the global workforce.

She spoke against discrimination against women in corporate organizations in various forms, including salary/pay, training and expression of views on work-related issues and challenged male bosses to go beyond the usual gender stereotyping and manage employees transparently and fairly with the view to maximizing each individual’s capacity.

This is exactly what is done at Springfield where she said women, including herself, are heavily represented in the top management of the organization. ‘We live what we preach and believe in going even further down to supporting the education of the Girl-Child to create enlightenment in our society because we know that when women are well educated and involved in decision-making development is accelerated.” Ms. Malkani added.

Other speakers at the event included Belinda Tandoh, CFO, GLICO Pensions, Francis Agyarkwa, HR Manager, PUMA Energy and Anthony Safo, Country Head, Kenya Airways.
