 Kevin Okyere

The Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Group of Companies, Mr. Kevin Okyere has underscored the importance of mentorship and career guidance for the youth to discover their innate potentials and study towards the actualization of their dreams.

This, he believes, can drive the development of Ghana and Africa in general faster to ensure the sustainable use of both the human and natural resources of the continent to alleviate poverty and deprivation.

Mr. Okyere made the observation when he interacted with students of Ghana International School (GIS) at the offices of Springfield E&P in Accra.

The company hosted the Science and Business students of the school under a work shadowing programme meant to guide them on their career choices and also help them to gain insight into operations within the oil and gas sector on Monday 22nd and Friday 25th June, 2018.

Numbering over 40 and accompanied by their Teachers and Supervisors, the students had engaging, interactive sessions with subject matter experts in the areas of Geology, Geophysics, Well Engineering, Corporate Sustainability, Accounting and Finance, Contract and Procurement and Human Resource Management amongst others.

The high point of the visit was the one-on-one- opportunity to interact with Mr. Okyere, together with the Group Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Geena Malkani who shared the story of Springfield’s establishment, growth and work ethos that had given it the unique position as the only Ghanaian independent upstream operator in the country.

The CEO, reiterated his mantra for students not to allow anybody or circumstances to rob them of their dreams, but to focus, persevere and study hard to make the investment by their parents worthwhile.

“You should consider yourselves blessed and highly privileged to be studying in GIS which is one of the best schools in the world. If you remain focused and take your studies seriously, you would find out when you move on to the University that you were very well grounded by GIS”. He advised them.

Mr. Okyere said there was nothing they could not achieve if they set their minds on them, saying as the future of our nation, it was very important for them to know that there was nothing inferior about them in comparison to other youth across the world.

“So long those achieving great feats in the developed worlds do not have two heads, your motivation should be that, if they can, so can we”

On her part, Ms. Malkani urged the students not to be narrow-minded in their studies, but prepare themselves for the world at large. She encouraged them to factor internship into their studies so as to appreciate the needs and opportunities on the global market and work hard for it.

She informed her enthusiastic listeners that Springfield was a company of the present and the future with huge potential and urged them to be guided by discipline, commitment to their studies and be determined to succeed in their endeavors.

A Representative of the students thanked the CEO and the Springfield Team for the opportunity offered them and expressed the hope that the doors of the Group of companies would be open, should they come knocking for internship and future employment when they were done with their courses.
