The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the Springfield Group, Mr Kevin Okyere, joined the International and national executive board and members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel on Thursday March 15, 2018, for their workshop in Accra.

Kevin, a member of the SPE-Ghana Board, was on a panel with other upstream industry players who shared their experiences with the young Petroleum Engineering professionals to share insights into workings within the industry and to inspire them to towards greater heights.

‘If you keep at what you believe in, irrespective of people telling you it wouldn’t work, your hard work will pay off’, He told the young professionals and urged them not to allow challenges to derail their vision and desire to build something on their own.

He charged the audience and Ghanaians in particular, to forge partnerships with others who shared their vision in order to maximize their synergy for quicker results. ‘When you are two or three, it is easier for you to attend to different aspects of the business. For example, whilst you are at the ministry trying to see some officials, your colleague would also be chasing after something else somewhere.’

Touching on the discovery of oil and gas deposits within Ghana’s Voltaian Basin and the need for Ghanaians to prepare themselves for the possible business opportunities it brings, Mr Okyere said it was important to learn from the experiences of Nigeria which has for a long time been producing oil from onshore. ‘Nigeria should be Oil and Gas lesson 101, as Tonye said, and if you want to learn how to do something in the industry, then go there’.

Other panelists with Kevin were Ato Aidoo, Managing Technical Director, Soluserv (Gh.) Ltd, Tonye Cole, CEO, Sahara Group, Uzo Nwagwu, Regional Integration Director - Sub-Saharan Africa, Baker Hughes, a GE company.
